Youth Philanthropy Initiative Participation Inspires Skill-Building, Academic Excellence, and Civic Engagement.

During our recent Youth Philanthropy Initiative (YPI), led by Eliza, Linden’s senior English teacher, Grade 9 students displayed exceptional courage, eloquence, and passion as they stood before Linden community members and YPI representatives to present their projects. Each team advocated for a charitable organization that addressed a cause that resonated deeply with the students. The most effective presenters, as decided by a judging panel of teachers and senior students, received $5,000 to donate to their charity.

Grade 12s Lead Spirit Week, Filled With Exploration-Themed Fun

In a longstanding tradition, Term 2 concludes with Spirit Week, in which Linden’s Grade 12 students lead community-building activities for students and staff alike. They decorated every inch of the school to reflect their chosen theme of exploration, and each day, students and teachers dressed up in creative and whimsical costumes that reflected the exploration of space, oceans, caves, the Arctic, and jungles.

Grade 8 Students Merge Environmental Consciousness with Creative Writing

The Grade 8 English class took on a culminating task for their Novel Study unit by crafting original short stories, inspired by the themes resonating in the dystopian novel, "The Marrow Thieves," penned by Indigenous author Cherie Dimaline. Students incorporated insights gained from their STEM For A Better World Fair projects, which centered around crucial issues concerning water and the environment, infusing their narratives with scientific understanding and consciousness of environmental issues impacting Indigenous people.

Curiosity takes flight at our recent STEM For A Better World Fair! Students delved into science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, empowered to leverage their new STEM expertise to create a better world.  

Linden's budding scientists chose issues of personal interest, using the scientific method to navigate the intricate pathways of hypothesis, experimentation, and analysis, unveiling insights and discoveries that ignited their imaginations. From innovative hand-made prosthetics to path-breaking environmental studies conducted in our nearby ravine, each project is a testament to the boundless potential of young minds engaged.

Linden's senior Communications Technology students recently visited Thomas and Grant from Toast and Jam where they learned about the relationship between mastering audio quality and establishing strong visual effects, the processes of audio and video design, and the methods used to carefully balance out sounds during production.

It was clear from the beginning that the evening would be special: Festival of Lights opened with our youngest students performing a colourful Land Acknowledgement, based on Jenny’s experience salmon fishing with her daughter in Tkaronto’s rivers, highlighting the importance of the land and its abundant resources and the way we interact with it.
